The italian self-confidence
Just have to tell you something fun that has happened these last days! Me and Vicky’s Swedish friends, who were here on a visit, went to Tea Room a couple of evenings ago just to hang out and chat. As we were playing some cards this guy approached me and said “Are you Swedish?” I was like “Hrrm, well, yes, how did you know?”. And then it turns out that he was a real fan of Sweden, that he has been back home lots of times and that he loves Swedish music. So he starts showing me pictures of Stockholm and some other places that he had in his cell phone while he’s talking intensively about how much he loves “Kent”. It was just crazy! So he pulls out his mp3 and have me listen to some of their songs and I was like “yeah, aha, this IS Swedish, I can confirm that at least”. Of course I had never heard the song before which was a little embarrassing but anyway. But that wasn’t it! Suddenly he pulls up his jacket and shows me his t-shirt which was one of those t-shirts that you can get on rock concerts. Of course it was from a Kent concert and on his back the lyrics to one of their most famous songs were written. It was just a very fun thing to do and I really admire people who have that much self-confidence just to walk up to someone they don’t know saying what they feel like. So he tells me that he works at Nannini (which is one of the places with the best reputation here in Siena. It is also the coffee shop named after the Italian singer Gianna Nannini who is extremely famous in Italy. She was born in Siena and her family owns this coffee shop) and says that I could stop by his job the night after if I wanted to say hello. I wasn’t really gonna do that cause it felt so tacky but at home I thought about how he had really made my evening fun and I decided to give him some advice about other Swedish music that he could download and listen to. So, I went to this extremely fancy upper-class coffee shop where he works and gave him a note with some names of other singers that he could listen to. Of course he wouldn’t let me go and made me two drinks (too bad I don’t drink alcohol!) and then he’s like “wait here” and then he takes off. And here comes the funniest part: he went back behind the bar and changed the music and put on “Om du var här” really loud with Kent!!!! It was just surrealistic! I couldn’t believe that it was happening because it was weird to be in that fancy bar listening to that song with Kent. Then some people came and it turned out that him and I had friends in common but that’s another story.
